Description

These Vegan Sausage Rolls are a delicious plant-based twist on the classic savory pastry, featuring savory vegan sausage crumbles wrapped in flaky puff pastry and baked to golden perfection. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they are easy to prepare and freeze well for quick meals anytime.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 2 sheets frozen vegan puff pastry

Filling

  • 14 ounces Impossible vegan sausage crumbles
  • 1/2 cup vegan breadcrumbs (panko preferred)
  • Few tablespoons water (as needed for sealing)

Finishing

  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Thaw Pastry: Set the frozen vegan puff pastry sheets out at room temperature for about 30 minutes to thaw while preparing the filling.
  2. Preheat Oven: Heat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Mix Filling: In a large bowl, combine the Impossible vegan sausage crumbles with the vegan breadcrumbs until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Prepare Pastry Rectangles: Lightly flour a clean surface, unfold one thawed puff pastry sheet, and gently roll it out slightly. Cut the pastry into 3 long rectangles using a pizza cutter. Repeat with the other sheet to get 6 rectangles total.
  5. Fill Pastry: Divide the sausage mixture evenly into 6 portions. Place each portion lengthwise down the center of each pastry rectangle, leaving about an inch of space on the edges and ends.
  6. Seal Rolls: Fold the sides of the pastry over the filling and pinch the edges together to seal, using a little water to help stick the dough together. Repeat with all pastry pieces.
  7. Cut and Vent: Use a large knife to cut the sealed pastry into 2-inch-long sausage rolls. Place them spaced apart on the prepared baking sheet. Cut several slits on top of each roll to allow steam to escape while baking.
  8. Brush and Bake: Brush the tops of the sausage rolls with melted vegan butter for a golden finish. Bake them in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown on top.
  9. Serve: Remove from the oven, serve immediately while warm, and enjoy your vegan sausage rolls!

Notes

  • These sausage rolls freeze well. After baking, let cool completely and freeze in an airtight container or bag. Reheat in the oven or air fryer at 425 degrees Fahrenheit until warmed through.
  • If Impossible sausage is unavailable, any favorite vegan sausage crumbles or homemade tempeh sausage crumbles can be used as a substitute.
