Ingredients
Scale
Beef Brisket
- 1 medium-large beef brisket (about 5 pounds)
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Honey BBQ Sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup molasses
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Prepare Slow Cooker and Brisket: Lightly grease your slow cooker and place the beef brisket inside.
- Mix Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, molasses, honey, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, garlic powder, and apple cider vinegar. Set aside.
- Season Brisket: Combine garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl. Rub this seasoning mixture evenly all over the brisket.
- Cook Brisket: Pour the prepared BBQ sauce over the brisket in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 hours until the brisket is tender.
- Make Sauce Thickener: Carefully pour the cooking liquid from the slow cooker into a large saucepan. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Thicken Sauce: In a small bowl, stir the cornstarch into cold water until dissolved. Pour this mixture into the boiling sauce liquid, reduce heat to medium-low, and stir continuously until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
- Shred and Serve: Using two forks, shred the cooked beef brisket. Pour the thickened sauce back into the slow cooker with the shredded beef, stir well, and serve hot.
Notes
- The honey BBQ sauce can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator until needed for convenience.
- Use a well-greased slow cooker to prevent the brisket from sticking.
- Ensure to cook the brisket on low heat for the full 10 hours for optimal tenderness.
- Shredding with two forks helps to create perfect bite-sized pieces that absorb the sauce better.
- If a thicker sauce is desired, you can add a bit more cornstarch slurry gradually, stirring until preferred consistency.
