Description

This Shamrock Shake Copycat recipe recreates the classic minty, creamy green milkshake you love, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any time you crave a refreshing treat. Made with vanilla ice cream, peppermint extract, and green food coloring, it’s easy to blend up and garnish for a festive presentation.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 4 drops green food coloring

Garnishes

  • Whipped cream for garnish
  • 1 cherry for garnish
  • Honey for glass rim decoration
  • Green sanding sugar for glass rim decoration

Instructions

  1. Decorate Glass: If you want to decorate your glass, pour some honey onto a plate and green sanding sugar onto another. Dip the rim of each glass first into the honey, then immediately into the green sanding sugar to make it stick. Set the decorated glasses aside.
  2. Blend Ingredients: Add the vanilla ice cream, milk, peppermint extract, and green food coloring into a blender. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and evenly colored.
  3. Serve: Pour the milkshake into the prepared glasses. Top each glass with a generous swirl of whipped cream and place a cherry on top for garnish.
  4. Taste and Adjust: Before pouring, taste the milkshake and if you prefer a stronger peppermint flavor, carefully add a little more peppermint extract, blending in between additions to avoid overpowering.

Notes

  • Taste test the milkshake before pouring to ensure the peppermint flavor is balanced; peppermint extract can be very strong, so start with less and adjust to preference.
  • Start with fewer drops of green food coloring and add more as needed to reach your desired shade, preferring regular food coloring since gel is more concentrated.
  • An older version of this recipe uses almond milk and vanilla pudding mix instead of ice cream for a dairy-free alternative.
  • If decorating glasses, make sure to use honey and sanding sugar to achieve an attractive festive rim that adds texture and sweetness.
