This Halloween Popcorn is a festive and delicious treat combining salted popcorn, semisweet chocolate, candy corn, peanut M&Ms, mini marshmallows, and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for parties or a spooky movie night, it’s easy to make using a double boiler method to melt chocolate and assemble a crunchy, sweet snack that hardens in the fridge.
Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 3 cups salted popcorn
Toppings
- 1/2 cup candy corn
- 1/2 cup peanut M&Ms
- 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
- Sprinkles, for decorating
Instructions
- Prepare the mix: In a large bowl, combine the popcorn, candy corn, peanut M&Ms, and mini marshmallows.
- Melt the chocolate: Fill a medium pan with about an inch of water and bring it to a simmer. Reduce heat to low. Place the chopped semisweet chocolate in a heatproof bowl larger than the pan and set it over the simmering water, ensuring the bowl does not touch the water. Stir gently with a rubber spatula until the chocolate is completely melted.
- First layer assembly: Drizzle half of the melted chocolate onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spread half of the popcorn mixture evenly on top, pressing gently into the chocolate. Sprinkle some sprinkles over this layer.
- Second layer assembly: Drizzle the remaining melted chocolate over the popcorn layer, then top with the remaining popcorn mixture, pressing lightly. Add more sprinkles for decoration.
- Chill and set: Refrigerate the assembled popcorn bark for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate hardens fully.
- Serve: Once hardened, break the popcorn bark into bite-sized pieces and serve. Store at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate to prevent melting, noting that refrigeration may reduce popcorn freshness.
Notes
- If you prefer to avoid peanuts, substitute peanut M&Ms with regular M&Ms and add 1/2 cup chopped pretzels for saltiness.
- For other festive treats, try Rice Krispie Pumpkins or Halloween Truffles.
- If you enjoy this recipe, consider trying Christmas Popcorn and chocolate-covered popcorn recipes as well.
- Popcorn is best enjoyed the day it is made to maintain freshness.
- Stirring all ingredients together with chocolate poured on top is an alternate method but may make layering and decorating harder.
