Description

These festive Cupcake Ornaments are a fun and colorful holiday treat, combining moist cupcakes topped with creamy frosting and decorated to look like Christmas ornaments with Reese’s miniature cups.

Ingredients

Scale

Cupcakes

  • 24 cupcakes, baked in cupcake liners
  • 24 Reese’s miniature cups

Frosting

  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 5 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Red, blue, and green icing pens or food coloring

Instructions

  1. Make the Frosting: Combine powdered sugar, butter, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Beat on medium speed until the frosting is smooth and fluffy. Adjust consistency by adding more powdered sugar to thicken or more evaporated milk to thin as needed.
  2. Divide Frosting: Place about 3/4 cup of frosting into two small bowls separately.
  3. Color Frosting: Add a few drops of red food coloring into one bowl and green food coloring into the other. Mix well until you achieve the desired vibrant colors.
  4. Frost Cupcakes: Use the remaining 1 1/2 cups of white frosting to evenly frost the tops of all 24 cupcakes.
  5. Prepare Piping Bags: Transfer the red and green colored frostings into separate piping bags or ziplock bags with a small hole cut in the corners for decorating.
  6. Decorate Ornaments: Pipe ornament designs onto the frosted cupcakes using the colored frostings to mimic Christmas ornament patterns.
  7. Add Cupcake Topper: Place one Reese’s miniature cup inside each cupcake liner at the center of the cupcake to complete the ornament look. Optionally, twist a paper clip into a small fish hook shape and insert it into the Reese’s for an extra decorative touch.

Notes

  • If frosting is too runny, gradually add more powdered sugar to reach the right consistency.
  • Use gel food coloring for brighter, more vibrant colors without thinning the frosting.
  • You can substitute the Reese’s miniature cups with other small candies or edible decorations to customize the design.
  • For easier piping, chill the colored frosting slightly before decorating.
  • These cupcakes can be prepared a day ahead; store unfrosted cupcakes in an airtight container and frost before serving for best freshness.
