Ingredients
Scale
Roll Ups
- 8 slices white sandwich bread
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 5 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Egg Mixture
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Serving
- Maple syrup
Instructions
- Prepare Butter Mixture: Separate 2 tablespoons of softened butter and set aside. In a medium bowl, combine the remaining butter with 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon and 5 tablespoons of light brown sugar, mixing until fully incorporated. Set aside.
- Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, blend 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and set aside for coating later.
- Whisk Egg Mixture: In a medium dish, whisk together 2 eggs, 1/4 cup milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until fully combined. Set aside.
- Prepare Bread: Remove crusts from each bread slice. Using a rolling pin, roll each slice until flattened. Spread a thin layer of the cinnamon butter mixture over each slice, then roll tightly into a log shape.
- Preheat Pan and Melt Butter: Heat a nonstick frying pan over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of the reserved butter in it.
- Dip and Fry Rolls: Dip each bread roll into the egg and milk mixture, coating well on all sides, then place seam side down in the warm pan. Fry each roll for about 2 minutes per side, until golden brown. Add more butter to the pan if needed, and fry in batches of four to avoid overcrowding.
- Coat Rolls in Cinnamon Sugar: As soon as each roll is cooked, remove from the pan and immediately roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture so it sticks well.
- Serve: Serve the cinnamon roll French toast roll ups warm, drizzled with maple syrup for added sweetness and flavor.
Notes
- Use soft sandwich bread as it is easier to flatten and roll.
- A nonstick frying pan prevents the rolls from sticking and tearing.
- After frying, remove excess butter from the pan with a paper towel before adding fresh butter to keep rolls golden brown.
- Coat the rolls with cinnamon sugar immediately after cooking for best adhesion.
- Fry rolls in small batches to avoid burning and ensure even cooking.
- Do not soak the rolled bread in the egg mixture too long to prevent soggy insides; a quick coating on each side is sufficient.
