- Green food coloring (10 drops)
- 1 red velvet box cake mix (prepared according to box directions)
Cream Layer
- 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 8 ounce tub whipped topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven Preheat your oven to 350º Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cake layers.
- Prepare cake mixes Follow the box directions for both the white and red velvet cake mixes. For the white cake mix, add 10 drops of green food coloring to create a festive green layer.
- Bake cakes Pour each batter into a greased 9×13 inch cake pan and bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool completely.
- Prepare cream mixture In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, and whipped topping. Mix thoroughly until well blended and smooth.
- Crumble cakes Crumble both cooled cakes into separate bowls, reserving 1/4 cup of each color for the decorative topping.
- Assemble trifle In a clear glass container, alternate layers of the red velvet cake crumbs, cream mixture, and green cake crumbs. Repeat the layering until all cake and cream are used.
- Top dessert Sprinkle the reserved red velvet and green cake crumbs evenly on top for decoration.
- Chill and serve Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld and the cream to set.
Notes
- You can use homemade cake mix or boxed cake mix based on preference or availability.
- Using a clear glass container enhances the visual appeal by showcasing the colorful layers.
- Top the red velvet cake layers with berries for an extra festive touch; fruits like oranges or kiwis complement layers made with white cake mix.
- Make sure to let the cakes cool fully before crumbling to avoid melting the cream mixture.
