Description

Delicious chocolate dipped apple slices are a perfect sweet and healthy treat, combining crisp apples with smooth, melted chocolate and a variety of toppings for added texture and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 2 firm apples (e.g. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji)

Chocolate

  • 6 ounces chocolate (semi-sweet, milk, or dark)

Toppings

  • Toppings of choice such as shredded coconut, chopped nuts or seeds, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, dried or freeze dried fruit, crushed cookies, peanut butter, caramel, or additional melted chocolate

Instructions

  1. Slice apples: Cut the apples into 8 wedges each, removing the core and seeds. Dry the apple slices thoroughly with paper towels to ensure the chocolate adheres properly.
  2. Melt chocolate: Chop the chocolate into small pieces if using a bar. Reserve a small handful of the chocolate. Melt the remaining chocolate in a heat-proof bowl set over a saucepan with 1 inch of barely simmering water, avoiding contact between water and bowl. Stir constantly until melted. Remove from heat and stir in the reserved chocolate until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  3. Dip apple slices and add toppings: Holding an apple slice on one end, dip it into the melted chocolate, covering approximately ¾ of the slice. Allow excess chocolate to drip off, then immediately press into or sprinkle the toppings to ensure they stick. Place the dipped slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet. For wet toppings like peanut butter or caramel, wait until the chocolate sets before drizzling.
  4. Set and enjoy: Refrigerate the chocolate dipped apple slices for 5 to 10 minutes to let the chocolate set fully before serving.

Notes

  • Use good quality chocolate with cocoa butter for easier melting and better flavor, such as Callebaut, Ghirardelli, Lindt, Baker’s, or Guittard brands.
  • Topping ideas are versatile and can be combined or used alone, ranging from shredded coconut and chopped nuts to dried fruits and crushed cookies.
  • If melting chocolate in the microwave, do so in 20-second intervals stirring between each to avoid scorching.
  • Store prepared chocolate dipped apple slices in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days; they are best eaten fresh.
  • Ensure apple slices are dried well so the chocolate sticks better and does not slide off.
