Ingredients
Scale
Pastry and Cheese
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
- 10 ounce brie cheese wheel
Toppings
- 1/3 cup fig jam
- 1/4 cup walnuts chopped
Egg Wash
- 1 egg mixed with 1 tablespoon of water
Serving
- Fruit, crackers, or crostini for serving
- Rosemary or thyme sprigs for garnish optional
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to a 10-12 inch square, ensuring it’s even and ready to wrap.
- Assemble Brie: Place the brie cheese wheel in the center of the pastry, then spread the fig jam evenly over the top of the brie. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top of the jam.
- Wrap Pastry: Make a cut at each corner of the pastry diagonally toward the brie, stopping about half an inch from the cheese, creating four triangular flaps. Fold each flap up and over the brie like a pinwheel to enclose it, and brush the seams with the egg wash to seal.
- Chill Wrapped Brie: Place the wrapped brie in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to help prevent the cheese from melting too quickly during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Remove from the fridge and brush the entire pastry with the remaining egg wash to ensure a golden, shiny crust.
- Bake: Bake on the prepared parchment-lined sheet for 30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Rest and Serve: Let the baked brie rest for 5 minutes after baking, then serve warm with fruit, nuts, crackers, or bread. Garnish with rosemary or thyme sprigs if desired.
Notes
- Customize with your favorite jam flavors such as raspberry, apricot, or cranberry and nuts like pecans or almonds for different tastes.
- Toasting the walnuts before adding enhances their flavor and crunch.
- Chilling the wrapped brie before baking prevents the cheese from oozing out too quickly and helps the pastry hold its shape.
- For make-ahead prep, wrap the brie in puff pastry and cover with plastic wrap; store in the refrigerator up to 3 hours. Apply egg wash just before baking.
- Best enjoyed fresh. Leftovers can be refrigerated wrapped tightly for up to 2 days and reheated in a 400℉ oven to maintain crispness.
